Although its history is controversial, Chasselas is possibly one of the first grape varieties to be cultivated. Today Chasselas is the most important variety grown in Switzerland. The basically neutral character of Chasselas wine allows it to fully reflect the diversity of soils and climates found in the French-speaking regions that constitute its principal base. Synonyms: Fendant (Valais) Gutedel (German-speaking areas).

The vineyards of Valais, which produce a third of Swiss wines, extend over a hundred kilometres along both banks of the Rhone River. The vineyards of Haut-Valais penetrate deep into lateral mountain valleys. Those of Visperterminen, are among the highest in Europe. The sunny, dry climate and the variation of soils accounts for the profusion of grape varieties and for the interesting choice of wines. The Valais offers white wines, ranging from the light, subtle Fendant to the rich, complex "late harvest" specialities. Valais is a paradise for those who seek new and different wines. Aroma and delicacy predominates thanks to rigorous control of production and fermentation temperatures.

Characteristics;

Floral and fruity this Fendant has a pleasing structure sustained by a touch of carbon dioxide. This complex wine has an agreeable maturity that emphasizes the overall quality of this product.

Serve with: Ideal as an aperitif, it goes exceptionally well with light first courses, as well as fish and cheese dishes.

Cellaring: Best when young, drink when between 1 and 3 years old.
